Time Trials

Good news, TT-Season 2026 for PWCC is here!

This our Park Run of the cycling world!

Our Wednesday night TTs run from April through to August. They’re welcome to everyone whether a club member or non member. You can enter on Road Bike or a TT bike, no special equipment is needed just turn up and challenge yourself to beat your personal best.

We have a great TT community at the club regularly getting upto 40 each week. If you’re curious about racing it is a great place to start. Juniors are welcome to race but need to be over 12 and chaperoned on the first races before racing solo (if you can’t keep up with your son or daughter, do get in touch and we’ll try to organise a rider to help).

This year we will be using the CTT website for registering and payment for our club TT’s.

https://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/

To register for our events you need to create an account on the CTT website and make sure you fill in your rider profile. (many of you, who have registered for Open TT-events before will already have an account). The system still allows for on-the-line entries but these also require you to have a CTT account. (but you can create one on a mobile phone in a few minutes).

The cost for online entry will incur a £0.35 admin fee for the CTT. We charge £5 for members and £6 for Non-members. For Juniors u18, it is £3. The £0.35 admin fee will be added at the check-out process. The cost for on-the-line entries will be £10 If the event is cancelled by the club or if you withdraw your entry before the start list is published, you will be refunded the entry fee minus the £0.35 admin fee.

Here is a list of all confirmed club/open PWCC events for this season:

There are plenty of chances to get involved with time trialling, whether you’re new to this or a seasoned rider. Club events are friendly and informal and all are welcome from first timers to those hoping to win the league. Our weekly club TTs (usually 10 miles) start in April and run Wednesday evenings till mid August.

Throughout the season we also host a series of both club and open events at the weekends, ranging from 10 to 50 miles. Open events are slightly more formal and require advance sign-up on the CTT website. Many other clubs in the region also host club and open events, so there are lots of racing opportunities available.

Internal club points are compiled with awards given to Poole Wheelers riders at the end of the season!

Event registration

See our events page/Facebook group/WhatsApp Community for registration posted 3-5 (or more) days before each event, where you can sign up to the event via the CTT webite

Here is some general advise for new riders

On the day: you must find your way to the HQ (often away from the start line – location is confirmed at registration time) to sign-in before you take to the start line. Sign-in closes 20 minutes before the start of the event. When signing in, you will be given a race number which must be applied to the rear of your attire (using pins or placed in a number pouch on your skinsuit), the number should be returned at the end of the event.

Weather: Our events will run as long as the weather conditions are favourable (Not raining at the start and not extreme winds). If it is wet, rainy or high winds are forecast, keep an eye on our social media channels for event updates as events may be cancelled. This is an H&S precaution to ensure no one is put in a risky position when taking part in our events.

Cost: The entry fee for PWCC club events is £5 for adults (Club members and 2nd claim), Under 18s is an optional £3 for club members. Non members it is £6 which covers indemnity insurance, signage, etc

Working Front & Rear Lights and Helmets are required for all riders at all events.

Start Time: All riders are given a start time before the day of the event (often placed on the PW Facebook group) and are set off at 1 or 2 minute staggered intervals. Riders will often start in order of ability with faster riders going last.

After your TT you are required to return your number, go through a list of possible excuses for non- PB’s with fellow riders & sign-out to confirm you have returned to the HQ location.

New to TTs? You don’t need any specialist equipment: just a roadworthy bike, a helmet and a back light will suffice (though of course a TT bike will help you go faster!). Wearing skin-tight clothing is also advisable – take a look at our video to help understand what’s involved!

Open event: These must be signed up for in advance through the CTT website. It can be confusing the difference between a club and open event, but all of our club events take place on a Wednesday evening. Our open events will take place on a weekend. Fees for Open TT’s vary but are usually around £15.

PWCC Club TT Events – Marshalls

We would love it if all TT riders chose at least 2 events to marshal at throughout the season. Please contact us via the Facebook post or WhatsApp if you choose to “sit one out” for the cause!

Marshalling is pretty straight forward, you are expected to be visible to riders and traffic, point riders in the right direction and give them a cheer-on. You are never expected/allowed to interfere with traffic or check traffic for riders. The riders are responsible for their own safety and for following all traffic rules.

There will be a WhatsApp group for Marshalls where last rider number etc will be announced.

Please note riders under 18 years of age will not be expected to marshal but can nominate a parent or suitable adult to marshal on their behalf.

Results

We run our own Time Trial results service which includes club competition league tables. The main competitions are the ‘Club Ten’ Leagues, where we run Premier, First, Second and Third Division leagues as well as Junior League and Handicap Leagues. 2019 will also see our first ever Women’s League, an important step as we see more and more women joining the club. We also run the Rothwell League, which is based on results in club events other than evening 10s. Finally there’s the Hill Climb Championship and our Inter Club Competitions where we compete against other local clubs.
