Time Trials

Poole Wheelers actively participate in and help organise the local Time Trial (TT) circuit.

Get involved!

Join any of our club or open events in the region, including those organised by other clubs. PWCC Club organised events are listed here.

There are plenty of chances to get involved with time trialling, whether you’re new to this or a seasoned rider. Club events are friendly and informal and all are welcome from first timers to those hoping to win the league. Our weekly club TTs (usually 10 miles) start in April and run Wednesday evenings till the end of August.

Throughout the season we also host a series of both club and open events at the weekends, ranging from 10 to 50 miles. Open events are slightly more formal and require advance sign-up on the CTT website. Many other clubs in the region also host club and open events, so there are lots of racing opportunities available.

Internal club points are compiled with awards given to Poole Wheelers riders at the end of the season!

Event registration

Follow PWCC on Facebook as event registration prompts will be posted 3-5 (or more) days before each event linking registration to this website (placed under News) where you will be required to post a comment stating your name and club (and if required (for TTTs), who your riding with).

Riders

ON THE DAY you must find your way to the HQ (often away from the start line – location is confirmed at registration time) to sign-in before you take to the start line. Sign-in closes 20 minutes before the start of the event. When signing-in, you will be given a race number which must be applied to the rear of your attire (using pins or placed in a number pouch on your skinsuit), the number should be returned at the end of the event.

WEATHER CONDITIONS Our events will run as long as the weather conditions are favourable (dry and low wind). Please bare in mind that if it looks wet, rainy or high winds to be forecast, to keep an eye on our social media channels for evet updates as events may be cancelled. This is a H&S precaution to ensure no one is put in a risky position when taking part in our events.

COST The entry fee for PWCC club events is £5, which covers indemnity insurance, signage, etc – this should be paid on the day (at registration) ideally using contactless payment (but cash is also accepted). Open event fees vary but are usually £8.

REAR LIGHTS and HELMETS are required for all riders at all events.

START TIME All riders are given a start time before the day of the event (often placed on the PW Facebook group) and are set off at 1 or 2 minute staggered intervals. Riders will often start in order of ability with faster riders going last.

AFTER YOUR TT you are required to sign-out to confirm you have returned to the HQ location.

NEW TO TTs? You don’t need any specialist equipment: just a roadworthy bike, a helmet and a back light will suffice (though of course a TT bike will help you go faster!). Wearing skin-tight clothing is also advisable – take a look at our video to help understand what’s involved!

PWCC Club TT Events – Marshalls

We ask that all TT riders chose 3 events to marshal at throughout the season. Details about how to sign up to the 2021 Marshal Rota will be announced soon.

Please give 72 hours notice if you can no longer marshal so a replacement can be found, and give an alternative date to marshal.

Please turn up ½ hour before race start when marshalling in order to be briefed as to rider numbers etc and provide the organiser with your mobile number.

All marshals will need to be found before sign up can commence (includes forum pre sign on).

Please note riders under 18 years of age will not be expected to marshal but will need to nominate a parent or suitable adult to marshal on their behalf.

Results

We run our own Time Trial results service which includes club competition league tables. The main competitions are the ‘Club Ten’ Leagues, where we run Premier, First, Second and Third Division leagues as well as Junior League and Handicap Leagues. 2019 will also see our first ever Women’s League, an important step as we see more and more women joining the club. We also run the Rothwell League, which is based on results in club events other than evening 10s. Finally there’s the Hill Climb Championship and our Inter Club Competitions where we compete against  other local clubs.

You can also keep an eye on Eammon Deane’s blog Local riders, Local races with race results in the Dorset and South region.
