To round off the Poole Wheelers 2023 season we finished with our traditional Hill Climb.
As a first, we ran the Hill Climb as a 3 event series. The person with the best 2 of 3 times on Creech Hill would be named Hill Climb champion π
Going into the final round was a 3-way battle for first between Alasdair Hitchen, Matt Stanbury and Rufus King
Unlike the Ryder Cup, there was no trash-talking in the car park.
The low cloud and mist created a damp course favouring the riders sitting in the saddle. Whilst a headwind at the top just made it cruel π Multiple riders came back complaining of their wheel slipping when getting out of the saddle.
On the day, Tom JN powered to the top setting the fastest time and setting a new course record with a 2:21:38 ππ₯
Settling the top 3, Alasdair flew across the line taking a PB of 2:28:16 ahead of Matt (2:36:08) to be crowned Hill Climb Champion 2023 π Matt’s time secured 2nd place overallπ₯. Rufus is proving you can be good at TTs, and Hill Climbs came 3rd in the overall standings π₯
Β
In the ladies’ competition, it was two-way tie between Sian McPherson and Lauren Falconer. With neither able to make the final race, Sian was crowned as the champion π ahead of Lauren by 17 seconds π₯
