Social and Training Rides

Wimborne Square where some of our weekend rides start/finish (we don’t always have banners!)

All are welcome at our regular rides and other activities. They happen every week (though look out for last-minute cancellations due to poor weather conditions etc).

Our social rides cater for various abilities, often with multiple groups to allow this. Training rides are more challenging. If you’d like to know more about any of the rides, feel free to contact the ride leaders listed. We’re here to help!

Additional Monthly Activities

  • Beginners’ road ride: first Monday of every month (March – September) – 6:15pm – meeting at Poole Park pavilion.
  • Winter track sessions: Saturday afternoons on the first weekend every month, at Calshot indoor velodrome.
  • Summer track sessions: first Saturday of every month at Bournemouth Velodrome.


Further information about our regular rides

  • Monday evening women’s ride: an ideal opportunity to enjoy a social ride with other women, get fitter and increase your confidence with riding in a group.
  • Monday evening track sessions: the first hour of this session is for youth riders, followed by adults. All are welcome; our coaches can support you whether you’ve never ridden the track before or are training for a race season.   • Club roller / turbo sessions: ideal for all abilities, these sessions offer a good chance to improve your fitness and keep trainign indoors during the winter months.
  • Wednesday evening club training rides (winter season): all are welcome and we split into multiple groups according to preferred speed. We ask for a contribution of £1 (£2 for non-members) to cover room hire costs.
  • Wednesday evening time trials: usualy 10 miles and sometimes 20, this race against the clock is a great way to challenge yourself. It’s not as scary as it sounds; speak to our time trial secretary or others members to find out more, and if you fancy it just give it a go!
  • Tuesday evening social rides (summer season): a chance to get out and enjoy being on the bike during lighter evenings. Mixed abilities welcome.
  • Saturday morning ride: this is usually 20-25 miles at approximately 17mph. Sometimes the group will divide into sub-groups to cater for different abilities.
  • Sunday morning training ride: this offers a tougher ride for experienced riders looking to train hard and improve their fitness. 20+mph for 55-80 miles. These are level 2 rides, and aimed more at riders who race, but all are welcome, these are often led by Mark Valentine.
  • Sunday morning social & improvers rides: The Fleetsbridge meetup has become very popular and now offers several options to cater for different preferences and abilities. These include a) a social group that rides to the speed that best suits the group – usually around 15mph for 30-40 miles (sometimes further in the summer) and b) an improvers’ group, which offers a more challenging ride. For example, they might cover around 40 miles at 17-18mph, taking on some challenging climbs, or hitting a higher average speed on a flatter route.

Oh, and since we’re a social club, our weekend rides usually end up in a local coffee shop…
