We had 8 Poole Wheelers competing at this event. This event attracts riders from all over the country, all the category’s were full and the competition was looking strong. The U12’s and U14 girls raced in the morning. Digby was first to get his name in lights on the board with a brilliant 5th in the scratch race. Oliver P was flying in the points and elimination race which resulted in a podium finish after some fast and furious racing, 3rd overall. This was Isabel’s first big track event & despite being a 1st year in her age category she proved to be highly competitive at the front of all her races, 6th overall, 1st 1st Year.
The afternoon was full of thrills and spills, literally! It was time for the U14 boys, and U16 girls and boys to race.
Ben was first onto the track to get the afternoon started, this was also his first time at icebreakers. Ben didn’t show any nerves, he was in the mix of it all and raced very well all afternoon. Charlotte and Dan both got closer to the track than they needed too in their races, thankfully they both bounced well and got back on to finish their race. Dan still managed a top 10 finish overall after making the scratch final and having a great result in his elimination race . Charlotte was racing well but her 2nd taste of the track sadly put an end to her day so she was up to the stands to cheer on her teammates. Jamie put in some great attacks throughout his races, making both finals, he placed 4th in the U14’s Points Final even with a slipped saddle and finished 6th overall. Tom was showing great form, he was into both the finals, but he was left disappointed after his elimination race. The disappointment didn’t last long. The boys U16 Points Final was the last event of the day, a very exciting race, with Tom making an attack which payed off, he took the double points on the last lap which gave him the win and moved him up to 5th overall, big smiles all round.
Tom even had some energy left for the following day, he was back on the track, this time in Derby to compete in the policemans Omnium ! – 7th overall.
What a fantastic month for all our Poole Wheeler Youths !
